This activity was originally presented as a part of Immunology Specialty Pharmacy Day of Education 2025.
Program Description
This session will address the significant challenges in managing moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in pediatric patients, including its incidence, burdensome impact on patient and caregiver quality of life, and characteristic symptoms. Through an in-depth exploration of the underlying pathophysiology, particularly type 2 inflammation and associated comorbidities, the session will explore the evolution of treatment approaches and the persistent unmet clinical needs that biologics aim to address. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the role of approved and emerging biologic therapies that target type 2 inflammation, alongside updated clinical guidelines and the limitations of topical treatments in AD. The program will also focus on the practical aspects of integrating biologic therapy into management strategies, emphasizing patient-specific indications, appropriate use, and crucial specialty pharmacy considerations such as patient counseling, therapy initiation, individualized selection, multidisciplinary collaboration, access, and ongoing monitoring and optimization of treatment. An included Powered by Patients interview will provide additional insight into the burdensome impact of AD on patients' and caregivers' quality of life.
