Program Description
Gout is the most common form
of chronic, inflammatory arthritis in the US, affecting approximately 9.2
million adults, with prevalence continuing to rise alongside obesity,
hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and other metabolic comorbidities.
Treatment typically involves urate-lowering therapies, yet many patients remain
undertreated with therapies that fail to achieve target levels of serum urate.
Uncontrolled gout leads to recurrent flares, chronic joint damage, and
diminished quality of life. While emerging therapies offer new treatment
strategies for patients with inadequately controlled or treatment-resistant
disease, gaps in adherence and limited patient counseling remain key barriers
to optimal outcomes. This activity will focus on the pharmacist’s role in
supporting treatment adherence and counseling patients on therapy options and
access, with strategies tailored specifically to the challenges of gout
management. The webinar will examine guideline-based management strategies,
clinical applications of novel agents, and patient-centered approaches for
pharmacists to improve outcomes in patients with gout.
