Program Description
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a significant yet often underrecognized cause of severe respiratory illness in adults, particularly in older populations and those with comorbid conditions. This program will explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical burden of RSV in adults, emphasizing the challenges in diagnosis and differentiation from other respiratory infections. The latest Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidelines, the efficacy and safety of available RSV vaccines, and best practices for vaccine implementation based on patient risk factors will be reviewed. The discussion will also highlight best practices for pharmacists to lead patient education efforts, vaccine advocacy, and addressing hesitancy to improve vaccine uptake.
