Program Description
Ovarian cancer poses a profound
clinical and quality-of-life burden, with most patients diagnosed at advanced
stages. Those with platinum-resistant recurrence often experience repeated
cycles of chemotherapy that exacerbate fatigue, pain, neurotoxicity, emotional
distress, and functional limitations. For those progressing to
platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC), historical single-agent options offer
modest response rates and limited progression-free survival, and are often
associated with cumulative toxicities. Biomarker testing has emerged as a
cornerstone of PROC management, enabling precision selection of therapies while
minimizing potentially ineffective exposures and accelerating access to optimal
care. This program will review how PROC and low-grade serous ovarian cancer
management has shifted toward biomarker-driven precision therapies, with a
focus on FRα overexpression, KRAS mutations, dMMR/MSI-H or TMB-H status, HER2
amplification, and other rare alterations. Pivotal trial data, pipeline
therapies, and practical approaches for evaluating emerging evidence and dosing
strategies will also be discussed. The program will also emphasize best
practices to mitigate unique toxicities through proactive monitoring, patient
education, EMR tools, and institutional protocols. By enhancing oncology
pharmacists' expertise in biomarker assessment, real-world implementation, and
safety optimization, this activity empowers them to guide precision treatment
selection, streamline care pathways, and improve outcomes for patients with
PROC.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply current guideline recommendations and clinical trial data to support treatment decisions and formulary planning for patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC), focusing on those with actionable biomarkers
- Compare emerging investigational therapies for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, including their mechanisms of action, patient selection criteria, and clinical trial data
- Identify evidence-based strategies for monitoring, managing, and mitigating adverse effects of novel agents in oncology practice
