Program Description
Despite an overall decline in incidence in
gastric cancer in the United States, it remains a significant health burden.
Outcomes for patients with advanced gastric cancer are often poor, and most
patients require multiple lines of therapy. The development of new targeted
therapies and immunotherapies has increased the number of available treatment
options, and to ensure appropriate treatment selection oncology pharmacists
must consider the efficacy of targeted therapies and immunotherapies based on
key biomarkers. However, overlapping biomarkers may present a challenge, as
there is often limited clinical evidence to guide treatment decisions in these
patients. This webinar will cover the critical role of biomarker testing in
gastric cancers as a strategy to guide treatment selection in the frontline and
second-line settings. A data review from recent clinical trials informing
regulatory decisions will also be discussed. Additionally, the program will
emphasize the pharmacist's role in proactive management of treatment-related
adverse effects, from medication-specific toxicities to immune-related adverse
events, and will offer practical strategies for oncology pharmacists to provide
dose modifications and supportive care to enhance patient safety and treatment
adherence.
