Program Description

Although pharmacists play a key role in delivering patient-centered care, they are not federally recognized as health care providers under Medicare Part B, and their recognition by state Medicaid programs and commercial payers varies between jurisdictions. This lack of consistent recognition creates barriers to reimbursement and limits their ability to fully integrate into health care teams. Pharmacists need a clear understanding of the evolving landscape of payment for pharmacists’ clinical services. Rather than presenting an exhaustive review of policy efforts across all states, this activity aims to enhance pharmacists’ understanding by highlighting key federal developments and notable state-level programs. By participating in this activity, pharmacists will gain a deeper understanding of payment for pharmacist services and be better equipped to advocate for expanded reimbursement opportunities.
