Program Description

While continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has shifted the management of diabetes, the true clinical impact of CGM technology relies on a pharmacist’s ability to translate data into actionable therapeutic adjustments and the pharmacy technician’s ability to support people living with diabetes to ensure optimal use. In this collaborative panel discussion, experts will move beyond basic device features to focus on the high-level interpretation of ambulatory glucose profile reports with an illustrative discussion on how to efficiently identify patterns indicating concerns such as hyperglycemia or potentially dangerous nocturnal hypoglycemia episodes. Panelists will emphasize a holistic approach to patient care, exploring how pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can provide support and ensure long-term CGM persistence through streamlined data-sharing workflows and optimized alert settings. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will gain a deeper understanding of the interoperability between CGMs, automated insulin delivery systems, and other tools, ensuring they can identify ideal candidates for these advanced integrations. By examining best practices for motivational interviewing and clinical follow-up, this panel will provide attendees with practical insights and tips for integrating digital health tools into community practice settings to drive measurable improvements in glycemic outcomes for people living with diabetes.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:

  • Identify candidates for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), automated insulin delivery systems, and emerging technologies (including continuous ketone monitoring)
  • Determine the use of CGM data and ambulatory glucose profile reports for treatment adjustments and optimizing results
  • Explore team-based strategies to support people living with diabetes across varied care settings
  • Examine solutions to overcome barriers to technology utilization from initiation to long-term use
