Program Description
Though ovarian cancer accounts for about 1% of new cancer diagnoses in US women, it remains one of the leading causes of gynecologic cancer death. Many patients continue to present with advanced disease and face high rates of recurrence, underscoring persistent challenges in early detection, durable disease control, and long-term survivorship despite meaningful therapeutic progress. In this context, oncology pharmacists may be increasingly involved in navigating complex frontline and maintenance strategies, managing platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant relapse, and balancing efficacy, toxicity, cost, and access in routine practice. This program leverages the latest data from the 2026 Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer to provide a focused review of selected abstracts in advanced ovarian cancer. Through multidisciplinary panel discussions led by oncology pharmacy experts, participants will explore evolving first-line and maintenance therapeutics, novel approaches in recurrent platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant disease, and the operational and payer considerations that shape real-world implementation. By integrating clinical evidence with formulary, workflow, and access perspectives, this program equips oncology pharmacists to critically appraise new data, guide treatment and sequencing decisions, and lead efforts to ensure that innovations presented at SGO translate into meaningful improvements in patient care across both academic and community oncology settings.
