This activity was originally presented as a part of Neurology Pharmacy Day of Education 2025.
Program Description
People living with migraine experience recurrent episodes of moderate to severe headaches, often accompanied by other debilitating symptoms that can significantly impact daily life and productivity. Unfortunately, standard of care treatments provide limited relief. Pharmacists are often centrally involved in the care of patients with migraine and can identify patients in whom traditional therapies may provide inadequate relief. With about half of people living with migraine experiencing poor response to traditional therapies and recurrent episodes, multi-mechanistic therapeutic approaches and other therapies targeting multiple pathways have been identified for investigation. As therapies with novel mechanisms of action continue to emerge in the landscape of migraine management, it will be important for pharmacists to understand their efficacy and safety data to optimize medication selection. The activity will highlight the crucial role of pharmacists in migraine management, patient monitoring, and strategies to improve adherence and safe medication use.
