Program Description

The treatment of HR+/HER2-negative (HER2−) metastatic breast cancer (mBC) is rapidly changing with innovative targeted therapies. These novel therapies require careful consideration of dosing variations, administration schedules, and potential adverse effects (AEs). While offering significant clinical benefit, novel therapies such as CDK4/6 inhibitors, PARP inhibitors, PI3K/AKT inhibitors, oral selective estrogen receptor degraders, and antibody-drug conjugates, are associated with unique and potentially serious AEs, which can significantly impact patient adherence and persistence to anticancer therapies. Oncology pharmacists play a crucial role in managing treatment-related toxicities and optimizing supportive care for HR+/HER2− mBC, serving as key resources for proactively monitoring, identifying, and managing these AEs. In addition to a review of specific AE profiles, this session will explore strategies for timely intervention and dose adjustments, effective patient counseling techniques to enhance adherence and self-management of toxicities, and the implementation of initiatives to optimize patient safety and outcomes.
