Program Description
Metabolic dysfunction-associated
steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progressive form, metabolic
dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), are becoming more common as
rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other cardiometabolic conditions continue
to rise. As a result, more patients are at risk for advanced fibrosis,
cirrhosis, and other serious liver-related complications. Because many patients
remain asymptomatic until later stages, effective management depends on early
risk recognition and practical, noninvasive evaluation. Ongoing challenges
include delayed diagnosis, inconsistent screening practices, and the
terminology shift from NAFLD/NASH to MASLD/MASH, which may affect clinical
communication during this transition period. This webinar will review how
pharmacists are well positioned to help identify high-risk patients, encourage
appropriate screening and follow-up, and reinforce lifestyle and
cardiometabolic risk-reduction strategies. This symposium is the first in the MASLD/MASH curriculum.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain the epidemiology, metabolic drivers, clinical presentation, and disease burden of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)
- Identify clinical indicators and high-risk patient populations that may warrant further evaluation for MASLD/MASH
- Apply current guideline recommendations to support screening awareness, patient education, and referral for appropriate evaluation
