Program Description
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a progressive, common condition affecting more than 34 million people and can lead to serious complications, including heart and kidney disease, if not well managed. Current guidelines recommend therapies such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists, and SGLT2 inhibitors, which help improve blood sugar control and reduce cardiovascular and kidney risks. Despite these advances, many people with diabetes are still challenged to achieve their treatment goals. A key factor is therapeutic inertia, or the failure to initiate or intensify therapy in a timely manner when treatment goals are not being met. Awareness that therapeutic inertia can lead to prolonged periods of uncontrolled blood glucose, increasing the risk of complications, is key for pharmacists to identify and support people living with T2D. This program will focus on actionable strategies pharmacists can take when informed by clinical guideline updates. Learners will be guided through interactive patient cases that will highlight evidence from key clinical trials and promote discussion of real-world approaches for using GLP-1 receptor agonists, dual GIP/GLP-1 RAs, and SGLT2 inhibitors. In addition, we will share actionable insights gathered from pharmacist participants across several chapter meeting programs held throughout the United States, offering a broader perspective on common challenges and strategies in T2D management.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain the clinical burden of uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its relationship with cardiovascular and kidney complications.
- Explore the most current guidelines along with supporting evidence from clinical trials to determine when to initiate or intensify incretin therapies for people living with diabetes.
- Apply pharmacist-led interventions to minimize barriers and prevent therapeutic inertia in T2D.
- Integrate insights on barriers and challenges identified by pharmacists across prior sessions to tailor strategies that increase prescribing of evidence-based incretin therapy.
