This activity was originally presented live at the 2025 Oncology Pharmacists Connect Conference in Austin, Texas.

The treatment of castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC) has evolved with the introduction of novel antiandrogens. However, determining the most appropriate treatment requires careful consideration of disease characteristics, patient factors, and drug properties. The session provides a general overview of prostate cancer, its pathophysiology, and screening methods, as well as the principles of androgen deprivation therapy and the role of novel antiandrogens. Oncology pharmacists must have a comprehensive understanding of these agents to support evidence-based prescribing. As the field evolves, oncology pharmacists must adapt to new treatment paradigms and manage potential toxicities effectively to improve patient outcomes, including adherence, and reduce treatment discontinuation rates. This session will delve into current guidelines and the evolving landscape of CSPC treatment, highlighting recent updates from clinical trials and the rationale for doublet versus triplet therapy in CSPC. Critical aspects of managing toxicities, nonadherence, and early discontinuation of these therapies, including strategies for adverse effect prevention, monitoring, and management, as well as essential patient education and counseling points to optimize treatment outcomes, will be discussed.
