Program Description

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common cardiovascular disease characterized by abnormally thick or enlarged heart muscle and left ventricular hypertrophy. The disease often goes undiagnosed, and conventional therapies for symptomatic HCM are often inadequate and poorly tolerated. Recently, newly approved and investigational cardiac myosin inhibitors have emerged for the treatment of symptomatic HCM. Pharmacists must be familiar with the clinical application of these therapies, as well as their role within recent updates to guidelines for the diagnosis and management of HCM. This session will review the impact of early detection of HCM in reducing disease burden as well as patient-centered interventions that pharmacists can incorporate into treatment plans to improve clinical outcomes. Featured patient case discussions will allow participants to evaluate shared clinical decision-making for treatment initiation, consider the potential place in the treatment paradigm for emerging therapies, and practice solutions for current challenges in the management of therapies for patients with HCM.
