Obesity Care in Practice: Advancing Evidence-Based, Person-Centered Care

Program Description

Obesity is a complex, chronic, relapsing disease driven by biological, genetic, environmental, and social factors — yet it remains widely under-recognized and undertreated. More than 100 million US adults are living with obesity, which drives type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, obstructive sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and other co-occurring conditions. As some of the most accessible members of the health care team, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to support assessment, pharmacotherapy optimization, and person-centered counseling in obesity care.

The Educated Pharmacist Learning Center is your dedicated, central hub for the Obesity Care in Practice initiative. This curriculum offers resources to support you in applying current evidence for incretin-based treatment strategies, and compassionate, non-stigmatizing communication into patient encounters for obesity care. Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Examine obesity as a chronic disease and the factors that influence its development, progression, and management
• Apply current obesity management guidelines to assess patients and guide individualized treatment decisions
• Explore current and emerging pharmacotherapies for obesity, including their efficacy, safety, and clinical application
• Identify strategies to address weight bias, support lifestyle modification, and enhance person-centered care
