Program Description
The majority of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are characterized by microsatellite stable (MSS) or mismatch repair proficient (pMMR) tumors, which can be associated with limited responsiveness to immunotherapy and poorer long-term outcomes. Following progression on standard first- and second-line regimens, patients without actionable mutations enter a complex third-line (3L) treatment landscape. In these instances, evidence-based options such as regorafenib, trifluridine/tipiracil alone or with bevacizumab, and fruquintinib offer modest but meaningful survival benefits. These therapies, many of which are orally administered, introduce adherence challenges, nuanced dosing schedules, and toxicity management considerations that are often compounded by residual toxicities from prior therapies. Despite guideline recommendations supporting their use, real-world data suggest underutilization and retreatment with earlier lines, highlighting gaps in sequencing.
This webinar is designed for oncology pharmacists across community, Veterans Affairs, and ambulatory care settings and will provide practical guidance on therapy selection, pharmacogenomic considerations, and proactive toxicity management, including laboratory monitoring, early identification of adverse effects, and patient-specific counseling strategies for patients with mCRC. Emphasis will also be placed on emerging therapies and evolving evidence, interdisciplinary coordination, and the expanding role of pharmacist-led oral oncology services in optimizing adherence, safety, and outcomes in this increasingly complex later-line mCRC setting.
